I had the chance to interview Dee Lawrence for my marketing paper. Dee is the author of the self-published book Gotta let it go.
Q: Who is Dee Lawrence?
A: I am an attorney who enjoys creative writing. For my job I write and read a lof of briefs and legal docs. So in my spare time I do creative things like writing and painting. I am also an avid reader, and if I can say so, a TV junkie!
Q: Why self-published your book?
Two main reasons. The most important is the timing. If you traditionally publish, you have to find an agent, the agent submits your book to a publishing house and then you need to wait again to get your book published. The process is really long whereas with self-publishing your book can be out in 24 hours. I also prefer self-publishing because of the control it gives me over my book. As I am my own publisher, I can choose, for example, what my cover will be.
Q: Talking about the cover, it is gorgeous.
A: Thanks. I actually found the designer by contacting a writer whose cover I loved. It happened that the designer lives actually pretty close to my place. The cover design process took three months as I wanted a cover with the Baltimore skyline and also photos of real people, not sketches or drawings. I am very happy with the final result
Q: Let's talk about Gotta Let It Go
A: I tried to fuse into the book two styles I love, romance and suspense. Gotta Let it go is the first book of a trilogy. I hope to release the second book next year. The synopsis: Moments before Deidre Hunter signs the papers that will end her marriage to her cheating husband, her best friend and divorce attorney get murdered. Devastated by this tragedy, she sets out with one intent: to find the killer.
Q: Where can we find you?
A: I am very active with the Maryland Writers' Association and I am part of the Book Divas, a group of writers who are touring together across the country.
Thanks Dee for your time!
