I received a mail on from Riffle Books with some promotional offer. One of the offer was 14 fantasy novels packaged in one ebook for $0.99. As I have been reading mainly recognized authors in the past two weeks, I thought it would be great to discover new Indie authors and I bought it. All the books are written by different authors and features the first book of series they have developed.
While I did not like Blades of Magic, the first book in the collection, I finished Concealed Power and I am now reading Shadowlight. So far I have not discover any gem and I won't probably buy the rest of the series of the three I have read but, I still have eleven books to go. I think this initiative is great as it allows readers to discover new authors in a specific genre for virtually free.
Blades of Magic: The female hero is an idiot. I did not like the way the story was progressing after a few pages so I skipped it.
Concealed Power: The first half was good, the second half less as the book became repetitive. Overall though, the story was engaging and original.
Shadowlight: I might give up this one pretty quickly. It was off to a good start as the story uses elements of Northern Europe mythology which are rarely exploited. But, the tale is progressing more and more on a conventional path and the reading is becoming boring.
