I bought the new Connelly and I really liked it. You can find in the The Burning Room the themes that are dear to Connelly: corruption and collusion of politics and business; defense of ethnic minorities. Harry is still very "Bosch" in his way to investigate. Some readers were disappointed by the book, saying they wished Harry would have retired earlier. Well I don't. There is something in Connelly's writing that builds my interest, like the way he describes a murder book or the detectives car rides through LA.
Harry has a new partner, Lucy Soto, a rookie he has to train during his last year of contract with the LAPD. They are given the case of Merced, a Mariachi vuelo player who was shot ten years ago. His murder was attributed to a drive-up or a lost bullet in a gang war. The analysis of the bullet that killed him confirms the weapon was a hunting rifle. This lead sends Bosh and Soto into a new investigation to discover what really happened on that day.
