I spent a couple of hours skimming through Darkfever. Skimming is exactly the word I would employ as I was unable to fix my attention on anything in the book. The main protagonist, MacKayla Lane, alias "Mac" has nothing to recommend her. She is a superficial blond young woman, with no brain and very little character, except being obsessed by her nails. She does not lack of courage considering everything that happens to her, unfortunately I would have preferred her to die as soon as possible in order to avoid the obligation to read the entire book. Jericho Barrons, her protector/warden/possible love interest is the stereotype of the attractive dominant macho guy.
The definitely good thing thing is you do not need to concentrate a lot to keep track of the story and the whereabouts of the characters. Darkfever is too badly written for my tastes, an accumulation of short sentences entirely turned towards action. Therefore I can't even consider it a suitable "swimming pool" book. Might be worth a read only if you happen to be on the beach, lying down on your towel, dripping water, and the hands full of sand. Then, the eyes blinded by the sun, you might enjoy reading Karen Moning's book.
